what Rev. Al said

When Rev. Al Sharpton preached the funeral eulogy for Daunte Wright, he lifted him to a place of glory and honor in our midst. He restored his humanity and his divinity.

Rev. Al also preached directly to everyone who is not yet looking through God's eyes at Black lives: "We are not anyone's slave. We are the children of God. We are the children of God. We are the children of God. If you know who God is! You keep thinking that we are somebody we're not. We are a divine decision."

Rev. Al could not restore Daunte Wright's life on earth. He could not give twenty-year-old Daunte Wright back all the years that were stolen from him by a police officer's gun. He could not give him back to his mother, or to his father, or to his son, or to anyone who loves him.

What Rev. Al could do, what Rev. Al did, was to help us to prepare a place in our hearts where we can welcome Daunte and treasure him as a child of God and be changed by his ongoing presence with us.

We are always already one in God's heart, whether we now live on earth or in the wider realms of God's light and love. God is counting on us to help make this oneness an everyday reality in our life together. This too is a divine decision.
