In the Midst: Psalm 8

What a gift it is to read Dr. Kimberly Bracken Long's reflections on Psalm 8:

"Psalm 8 is an expression of pure wonder. With awe, the psalmist sings a song of praise to the God whose glory cannot be contained. She extols the beauty of heaven and earth and marvels that God has entrusted creation to human beings."

"Not only does God create a gorgeous, generative world; God establishes justice as its foundation. In the midst of this world--and indeed, right in the middle of this psalm--human beings appear. The psalmist's awe is obvious here as well: how can humans, who are so small when compared to the vastness of the cosmos, mean anything at all to God? Yet God entrusts this amazing creation to those fragile human beings." (p. 361)

God trusts us more than we have been taught to expect, and counts on us more than we know.
