On Our Way

The night creatures are singing. The moon is growing round. I give thanks once again for Mary Pipher's vision and voice in her inspiring new book, The Green Boat: Reviving Ourselves in Our Capsized Culture: "What we are seeing is not a revolution but an evolution, a transformation in the way we think about our relationships to each other and to all living beings. More and more of us are grasping that we are all connected and part of one living organism, our biosphere.... As we repair our relationships with the web of life, the web of life will repair us."

Pipher's words here resonate as an affirmation of faith--she invites us to step with her into a new way of being that none of us can fully comprehend ahead of time. Our part is to make a decision, even though we cannot know from here whether our desired reality will indeed come into being, or precisely what it would be like, or what will happen to us as we journey.

In just this kind of faith, I gathered with a few others this week to begin work on opening new pathways of healing in our community's relationship with the wider web of life. We are on our way.

Newness emerges constantly--within, among, and around us. Just now at Mount Hope Cemetery for our evening walk, Michal and I saw baby bluebirds, spotted and fluffy, on some of their first flights.
