First Snow

Sunlit yellow leaves are falling from my neighbor's maple tree onto the first snow. I would not have noticed this, except that I took the hair dryer into the kitchen this morning and plugged it in by the window. As I wiggled the plug into the socket, I thought, it is good to do something a little strange once in awhile.

The hair dryer hummed. Instead of looking in a mirror, I looked out the window. And behold, the bright yellow leaves, in the air, on the snow.

Now my coffee tastes extra good as I write this. Before a busy day, I am breathing deeply, feeling thankful.

Now, where are my boots?
